Rahul Vashisht – Batonbearer, volunteer and marathon runner

Rahul, who is from Wednesbury, is an active volunteer and keen runner.

He has completed 100 half marathons and 22 marathons for charity – an incredible achievement!

He’s representing Shree Geeta Bhawan Temple in Handsworth where he is a trustee and sports co-ordinator, after starting volunteering there more than 20 years ago.

Rahul also volunteers for GOODGYM – a charitable organisation where you can do good deeds and get fit at the same time.

And if he wasn’t busy enough, he’s a leader with The Active Well Being Society’s Big Run Project, which organises regular running and walking sessions for beginner runners.

Rahul says: “When I first saw the email saying I had been selected as Batonbearer in the Queen’s Baton Relay in Sandwell I was very, very, very, happy.

“It’s a once in a lifetime achievement. It’s like a dream come true. I am over the moon to represent our community, volunteers and running groups in this relay. I am really looking forward to it.”

Rahul, aged 39, carried the Baton in Wednesbury. Find out more about our incredible day when the Queen’s Baton Relay came to Sandwell!
