Since arriving in the UK at a young age, Parmjit Dhillon has been a pillar of the local Sikh and Punjabi community.
He has brought people together from different backgrounds and religions through his work in the community by leading on sports.
He helped bring Kabaddi to the UK for the first time at The Hawthorns in 1999 and brought free health, youth sports and well-being activities to local Gurdwaras and community centres.
Parmjit, also former president of Gurdwara Baba Sang Ji in Smethwick between 2011 to 2015, was involved in the twinning of Sandwell with Amritsar back in 2000.
He also founded the Smethwick Youth & Community Centre and helped set up a community radio station – all as a volunteer!
Parmjit plays a huge part in Smethwick and he’s an inspiration to the next generation. He says he’s very excited to be carrying the Baton.
