Lorraine Gough – health hero and Batonbearer

Lorraine from West Bromwich is the proud chairperson of the Midland Freewheelers charity.

The charity runs a free motorcycle-based 24/7 courier service which delivers essential medical items to local hospitals and medical centres.

Lorraine played a huge part in developing the Blood Bike service to support the NHS and Midland Air Ambulance across the West Midlands and somehow manages to do this in her own time alongside a full-time job at Severn Trent.

She said: “I’d like to think we’re one of the best blood bike services in the UK and we supported over 6,900 different ‘jobs’ to the NHS in 2021 alone. This is a completely voluntary service and it’s always growing.

“I will be inviting friends and family to come along and see me, I can’t wait but I’m really nervous! My husband who is also a rider will be wearing his high-vis Blood Bike jacket so I can spot him in the crowd!”

Midland Freewheelers now has over 100 members who are committed to ensuring they’ll be there when they’re needed – 24/7, 365 days per year.
