Dinuk de Silva – Batonbearer and talented sportsman

Talented sportsman Dinuk de Silva is a West Bromwich inspiration.

He’s played tennis since he was two years old and he became a cricketer at the age of ten – following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, a Sri Lankan and professional cricketer.

Dinuk represented Warwickshire County Cricket Club with the under-14s through to the under-18s teams, as well as West Bromwich Dartmouth Cricket Club and Walmley Cricket.

He currently plays for Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s under-18s, and Leamington Cricket Club in the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League. His commitment sees him train weekly, with a two-hour round trip to his training ground, and four times a week in the nets.

He’s also played in a Barbados tournament.

18-year-old Dinuk, a student at Barr Beacon School, still finds time to run summer camps for children, and has set up a sports society that helps pupils deal with sporting setbacks.
