Cape Community Day Care Centre in Smethwick is an award-winning day care centre led and run by a strong volunteer and community team who bring together older and vulnerable people, offering a wide range of support and activities.
2023 has already seen some fabulous activities and events – including bike riding lessons for the over 75s, visits to Trentham Gardens and Coronation Street, craft sessions and youth club activities for six to 16-year-olds.
For the King’s Coronation in May, more than 60 older people (including one lady who was 98 on the day!) came to a celebration event at the centre, which included fish and chips, afternoon tea, a King Charles educational quiz and lots of dancing. Kalici Drummers also performed and allowed attendees to have a go on the drums.

Other services include the Cape ‘click & chat’ digital introduction, hot meals on wheels for people who are isolated, a parent and toddler group, a visiting and befriending service, and sessions to support mental and physical activity.
