Makena, aged 13 and from Oldbury, is a real fighter. Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, she faced surgery at five days old, a heart transplant aged five and post-transplant lymphoma aged six.
During lockdown, Makena danced every day while shielding, to raise money for heart charities and works within her community to raise awareness of organ donation.
Makena represents Team GB in the World Transplant games in Athletics and Skiing and has commonwealth heritage in Jamaica and Barbados.
Makena believes organ donation has given her a second chance at life and wishes to maximise every opportunity to honour her donor.
Makena you are amazing and we’re so proud you’ll be carrying the baton in the Queen’s Baton Relay in July in Sandwell.
