It’s great to see home-grown sporting stars doing so well at national competitions.
Two of Sandwell’s own – Ayo Fadahunsi and Joe White – celebrated success at this year’s England Age Group Weightlifting Championships held at Oldbury Academy.
Ayo comfortably took gold in the 73kg category of the Under 20 Age Group with a 114kg Snatch and 135kg Clean and Jerk.
While Joe White won bronze in the 89kg category of the Under 23 Group with a 114kg Snatch and an incredible 140kg Clean and Jerk.
Ayo and Joe are rising stars from Oldbury Academy Olympic Weightlifting Club, training out of Sam’s Health and Fitness under the tutelage of Sam Hayer.
Sandwell Council’s Public Health team has also supported Joe with a grant to give him the opportunity to become a qualified and recognised Olympic weightlifting coach.
Both Ayo and Joe have great aspirations for the future and we wish them every success.
