Parv Kaur – International Bhangra Talent

Born and bred in Smethwick, Parv’s love for music let her to becoming an international talent and founding the UK’s first Bhangra female entertainments team, Eternal Taal.

Growing up she was deeply interested in culture and music but was encouraged to focus on her studies and fulfil her academic ambitions in computer sciences, of which she is now a lecturer of.

However, her love of Indian drumming couldn’t be kept quiet and in 1999 founded her own Bhangra team in Sandwell.

“I was the only Punjabi Sikh girl pushing Indian drumming in this way” she tells us.

“Behind the scenes, I worked tireless on my musical journey and eventually landed my first Glastonbury Festival Main Stage performance. From that moment, I knew Indian drumming could reach an international level and I began travelling the world performing.”

Using her day job to fund her dream, she now runs one of the biggest and longest-standing Bhangra teams in the midlands, performing for royalty, at Glastonbury and within three mainstream Bollywood films.

Inspired by her father, Balbir Singh, who was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to Bhangra Music and to Punjabi Culture. His Bhujhangy Group has been recognises by the Guiness World Records 2022 for performing continuously for an incredible 55 years.

“I knew I had to follow in his footsteps and carry his legacy forward” says Parv.

It’s been 30 years since her first performance with her father on a stage in Sandwell and she adds that she “still has the same fire today as I did back then”.
