Sandwell Council’s regeneration plans for the borough are going from strength to strength to benefit everyone – with this week seeing the launch of a start-up hub to support local businesses.
Designed to give businesses and entrepreneurs the tools they need to flourish, the Sandwell Start-Up Hub offers desks, resources, collaborative spaces, free WiFi and networking opportunities. The hub will be free for businesses to use until September 2024.
Based at Jack Judge House in Oldbury, the Sandwell Start-Up Hub has open-plan office space where businesses can work alongside entrepreneurs and new businesses, and access meeting rooms.
Leader of Sandwell Council Councillor Kerrie Carmichael said: “With £2.9billion of regeneration investment coming to our borough, these are exciting times for all of us in Sandwell.
“We’re the place for business – just this week we’ve opened our new Sandwell Start-Up Hub which is a space for local companies to use.
“Not only that, we’re giving children the best start in life with new schools and great learning opportunities.
“We want everyone to be able to live well in Sandwell. That means providing the best education and training, to creating opportunities so that people can get a good job and everyone can achieve their potential, and to have good health from childhood into old age.
“We have hugely ambitious plans to regenerate our towns to help achieve this.
“Using our knowledge of what our local community needs we have more than 66 planned projects and are hoping to attract £2.9billion pounds of investment to deliver them.
“This includes our Sandwell Aquatics Centre – the best community leisure facility in the country – which opened to the public this summer.
“The Aquatics Centre showed what we can do when we get the chance. We had visitors from all over the world during the Commonwealth Games and we now have a state-of-the-art community leisure centre for all our residents to enjoy.
“Other projects being delivered in Sandwell include the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. New schools have also opened this September, helping to give children the best start in life.”
Councillor Peter Hughes, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the West Midlands Combined Authority, added: “This week we’re very excited to announce the launch of the Sandwell Start-Up Hub, a new co-working space for entrepreneurs in Sandwell that is free for local businesses for the first year.
“Sandwell is at the heart of the West Midlands, with great connections and a young and rapidly growing population.
“Sandwell is taking big strides forward. From driving up standards in schools and helping people develop their skills, from plans to build hundreds of new council homes, to creating well paid jobs in the borough. From this you can see we’re determined to make sure everyone in Sandwell has the best chance in life.”
